Excavators are engineering vehicles designed for digging, moving and transporting loose gravel. These vehicles comprise a backhoe and a cab mounted on a pivoted, rotating platform. The pivot is stationed on the top of an undercarriage equipped with tracks or wheels. These vehicles are also known as 360-degree excavators or diggers. Excavators are used for heavy industrial purposes such as demolition, digging of trenches, general landscaping as well as lifting heavy material and transporting them. They are also used for brush cutting with hydraulic attachments besides laying foundations and holes. Different types of excavators include drag line excavators, link-belt excavators, skid steers and steam shovels.
